Kilcar is a small Gaeltacht village, an Irish-speaking region nestled between the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, halfway between the majestic cliffs of Sliabh Liag and Killybegs, Ireland's largest fishing port. It is here, at the very edge of Europe, where the wind shapes the hillsides and the sea sets the rhythm, that Fisherman Out of Ireland chose to make its home in 1991. Not by chance but by conviction.

A House Born of Irish Knitting

Fisherman Out of Ireland was founded in 1991 by the Blarney Woollen Mills family, one of Ireland's most respected names in textiles. The ambition from the very beginning was clear: to take the traditional codes of Irish knitwear, Aran stitches, textured reliefs, and translate them into modern, refined silhouettes that can be worn every day, without sacrificing soul or craftsmanship.

Thirty years on, that ambition remains unchanged.

The Landscape as Raw Material

It is the environment that continuously feeds the creative process : the wild landscapes, the local fishing communities ; directly inspiring the yarns, colours and styles of every piece. The greens of moss, the greys of mist, the ochres of rock, the ever-changing blues of the Atlantic: the territory of Donegal can be read in every garment.

The Materials: Natural, Local, Uncompromising

Fisherman uses exclusively natural fibres. Much of the yarn is spun by Donegal Yarns, also based in Kilcar, complemented by blends of cashmere, alpaca, pure merino and lambswool. The loop is almost complete ; the yarn is born in Kilcar, and so is the sweater.

43 Artisans, One Workshop

From the first stitch to the final press, every piece in the collection is made entirely in the Kilcar workshop by a team of 43 people, many of whom have been crafting Fisherman garments for over 25 years. Everything is produced under one roof, ensuring full traceability and quality control at every stage.

A Collection Recognised Across the World

The brand has won multiple awards, and its natural fibre sweaters, at once contemporary and timeless, are shipped to every corner of the world. Being situated at the edge of Europe, in a Donegal fishing village, has never been a barrier. It is precisely what gives Fisherman its unique character.
