Back to Home pageSince 1922, Jack Murphy has created durable clothing in Dublin, inspired by Ireland and combining family craftsmanship, exceptional fabrics and functional elegance.
Born in Dublin. Built to Last.
Jack Murphy was born in 1922 in Dublin, the son of a fish merchant from Capel Street. He came of age in a city shaped by change, and a world on the brink of war. At seventeen, he joined the RAF in Belfast and served as a radar control officer, stationed in Hiroshima, Japan. What he witnessed there — the precision of military uniform, the functional logic of every detail — stayed with him for life.
Returning to Ireland, he married Frances in 1950 and settled in Skerries, a seaside village on the north Dublin coast. It was there that he launched his first venture in clothing. Specialising in corsetry, he became a recognised expert in garment structure and the female form, refining his craft at Leethams, a prestigious Dublin lingerie manufacturer, before opening his own workshop in Skerries. Twenty-five seamstresses. Every step under one roof — design, cutting, stitching, delivery. From the very beginning, an obsession with quality at every stage.
From Corsetry to the Outdoors : Michael Murphy
Jack's son Michael carried the legacy forward, pivoting the brand towards outerwear. Travelling across Ireland through unpredictable weather, he identified a gap in the market — genuinely beautiful, functional outdoor clothing that didn't ask you to choose between style and performance. The 1960s brought the first waxed jackets and waterproof pieces, inspired by the military garments Jack had studied in Japan. Irish wool gradually took centre stage. Under Michael's stewardship, Jack Murphy grew into an internationally distributed brand, with sustainability woven into its identity long before the industry made it a talking point.
The Third Chapter : Sarah Murphy
Since 2018, Sarah Murphy has led the brand as Managing Director — the third generation, bringing a vision that is at once forward-looking and deeply rooted in family heritage. Trained across every stage of the process, from drawing and pattern-making to manufacturing and finishing, Sarah grew up inside the business before formally taking the reins. Linings, buttons, quality of finish, cut — nothing escapes her attention. Her brother Matthew has since joined her, taking charge of the brand's digital development.
Under Sarah's leadership, Jack Murphy has committed firmly to slow fashion — thoughtful production, carefully sourced materials, designs built to outlast trends rather than follow them. The brand works to order, reducing waste and refining existing styles rather than replacing them each season. Every piece is conceived as a long-term investment. Women are at the heart of this vision, with Sarah significantly expanding the womenswear offering and bringing particular care to cut, fit, and everyday comfort.
The Fabric Moon & Sons
The choice of materials is a statement in itself. Jack Murphy sources its tweed from Abraham Moon & Sons, a family-run British mill founded in 1837 in Yorkshire — a partnership between two businesses that share the same values: heritage, craftsmanship, and an absolute refusal to compromise on quality. Moon & Sons controls its entire production process within a single mill, producing Woolmark-certified tweeds of unrivalled depth and texture, fabrics that only improve with wear and time.
What Jack Murphy Is. What It Isn't.
Designed in Dublin, inspired by Ireland's rugged landscapes and ever-changing skies, every Jack Murphy collection carries the founder's personal signature — a mark of authenticity and craft. What Jack Murphy offers is not exclusivity through rarity, but exclusivity through permanence. Beautiful, functional clothing, tailored for women who know what they want — and who don't need to be told why quality is worth its price.
Born in Dublin. Passed down through generations. Made to last.
