List of products by brand Pachamama

Since 1990, Pachamama has crafted natural wool pieces by hand in Nepal, guided by fair trade principles, lasting partnerships and a commitment to slow fashion.

Le Comptoir Irlandais is first and foremost a home of Irish and Celtic culture. But cultures with character travel, open up, and meet one another. It is this spirit that led us to Pachamama: a brand that is not Irish, but that shares with us the same convictions about how clothes should be made and worn. Natural materials, artisanal craftsmanship, lasting human relationships, pieces made to endure.

Earth Mother. Since 1990.

Pachamama: two words in Quechua, the ancestral language of the Incas, meaning "Earth Mother". A name that already says everything, the connection to the earth, the respect for what is living, the conviction that beautiful and useful things deserve to be made with care and conscience. It was while travelling in the mountains of the Andes that David Child and Cathy Stirland discovered the extraordinary craftsmanship of these regions, and decided, in 1990, to make it the heart of a commercial project quite unlike any other. A market stall in London. A handful of pieces. A philosophy already whole.

1996: The Nepalese Chapter

In 1996, Pachamama began trading clothing, accessories and homeware made entirely by hand in Nepal, in 100% natural wool. It was the beginning of a human and commercial adventure that has never stopped. The Nepalese suppliers are small family businesses, village artisans whose skills are passed down from generation to generation. Since those early days, Pachamama has built strong and lasting relationships with them, founded on mutual respect for every link in the chain of production, from sourcing and collecting raw materials to designing and marketing finished products.

Fair Trade as a Foundation

Fair trade is not a communication argument at Pachamama: it is the DNA of the brand from day one. Artisans are paid above national averages, treated with respect and equality, regardless of gender, race or religion. Forced labour and child labour are strictly excluded. Pachamama is a proud member of BAFTS, the British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers, an independent guarantee of its commitments. Regular visits to Nepal ensure that these principles are genuinely upheld on the ground.

Village-Based Production

The majority of production is village-based: artisans knit alongside their farming activities, at their own pace, close to their families, without having to leave their communities for the cities. This model provides a stable income for a large community of people, while preserving a precious social and cultural fabric. Some of these producers have been working with Pachamama for over twenty years. This is not loyalty by contract; it is loyalty by shared conviction.

Pieces Made to Last

Every Pachamama piece is knitted by hand, in 100% natural wool, with patience, care and attention. The patterns are original, the colours bold, the textures rich. Hats, mittens, scarves: accessories with character, like nothing found in industrial retail, and made to last. Pachamama is fully committed to the slow fashion movement: every piece is designed for life, not for a season.

Pachamama finds its place in Le Comptoir Irlandais because we believe that fair and conscious craftsmanship has no borders. These hand-knitted hats and mittens from Nepal share with our Irish brands the same fundamental values: respect for the craft, durability of the product, and the pride of work done well.

Handmade in Nepal. Fair trade since 1990.
