Kilchoman Distillery – The Authentic Spirit of Craft Islay Single Malt
Nestled on the rugged west coast of Islay, Scotland, Kilchoman Distillery represents the revival of traditional farm distilling. Founded in 2005 by Anthony Wills, Kilchoman was the first new distillery built on Islay in over 124 years. It’s also one of the very few Scottish distilleries to control every stage of the whisky-making process, from barley to bottle.
A 100% Islay Single Malt
Kilchoman stands apart with its unique commitment to producing whisky from start to finish on-site. The distillery grows its own barley, malts it using traditional floor malting methods, distills, matures, and bottles everything right there at the farm. This “farm-to-bottle” approach ensures complete traceability and offers whisky lovers a bold, authentic spirit crafted with passion and care.
Iconic Peated Whiskies
Like many Islay distilleries, Kilchoman is renowned for its peated single malts, rich with smoky, earthy, and maritime aromas. But Kilchoman strikes a delicate balance, complementing the peat with fruity, vanilla, and spicy notes, thanks to carefully selected casks – including bourbon barrels, sherry butts, and STR (Shaved, Toasted, Re-charred) casks.
Some of Kilchoman’s most celebrated expressions include:
Machir Bay – the distillery’s flagship, beautifully balancing smoke and sweetness.
Sanaig – softer and richer, matured in Oloroso sherry casks.
Loch Gorm – a 100% sherry-aged expression, bold and chocolatey.
100% Islay – a rare, terroir-driven malt made exclusively from barley grown on Kilchoman’s farm.
Casg Annamh – limited editions aged in rare or innovative cask finishes.
Award-Winning Craftsmanship
In just a few short years, Kilchoman has earned global recognition for its dedication to traditional, small-scale whisky production. Revered for its honest approach and attention to detail, it has become a favorite among fans of peated whiskies and connoisseurs seeking something truly authentic.
A Must-Visit for Whisky Lovers
If you ever find yourself on Islay, a visit to Kilchoman is a must. You’ll witness the full whisky-making process: from barley fields to malting floors, gleaming stills, and atmospheric warehouses. It’s a rare, immersive experience into the heart of Islay’s whisky tradition.
