Saburomaru The Magician 70cl 48°
Wakatsuru Saburomaru is a small Japanese artisanal distillery, located in the town of Tonami. It was born in 1952 when its founder Wakatsuro Shuzo, originally a sake brewer, obtained the whisky production licence.
This Saburomaru The Magician is the second Single Malt in the series, after "The Fool". Its label represents a tarot card symbolizing the beginning, the new adventure, which echoes the reconstruction of the distillery in 2017.
For this Small Batch, the peat is frankly expressed (53 PPM*) in a generous aromatic balance with notes of vanilla, citrus, green apple, oak and malted barley.
Without colouring or cold filtration, this expression comes from a blend of whiskeys distilled in 2018 and aged for 3 years in Bourbon barrels.
*PPM - parts per million - of phenolic compounds, measures the impact of oily peat smoke that settles on sprouted barley as it dries. The longer this time, the higher the ppm value. An already well peated Islay whiskey is around 40-50ppm. But let's never forget the particularities of each distillery in terms of the taste of the whiskey in the mouth.
