Mount Gay Andean Oak 70cl 48°

Brand : Mount Gay / Country : Barbados / Reference: : 24724

For the fourth edition of the Master Blender Collection, Mount Gay turned to Andean oak, a non-traditional wood choice, to explore another layer of aromatic complexity. The barrels were used for 11 months to complete the ageing of a single batch of rums distilled twice in a traditional copper still and aged 14 years in ex-Bourbon casks.

The result is a delicate blend with notes of spices, nutmeg, vanilla, ripe pear and toasted coconut on the palate. Dominating vanilla on the nose, Andean Oak Cask offers a spicy flavour on the palate that perfectly complements the fruity notes of rum aged in a pot still. This rum evolves over time, revealing layers of flavour over the course of a tasting journey.

Andean Oak Cask is bottled at 48% ABV and is not cold filtered.

From 1703 onwards, rum was distilled on Barbados, in the Caribbean. This new drink was named the “kill-devil”.

Sir John Gay was a respected businessman who worked for a greater Barbados. One of his friends, John Sober, inherited a distillery and sought advice from John Gay. The latter became manager of the distillery, refining the distillation process and starting to produce rum of better quality than others on the island.

Mount Gay Rum continued the 300 years of tradition and knowledge.
