Teeling Blackpitts Big Smoke 70cl 56.5°

Distillery : TWC / Country : Ireland / Reference: : 25340

Teeling Blackpitts Big Smoke is the new limited edition from the Teeling distillery with only 8,400 bottles available. A whisky that has a strong peat.

Double distilled and peated at 55ppm*, Blackpitts Big Smoke is fully aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. If peat is not usually Teeling's favourite domain, with this Big Smoke cuvée, the distillery has succeeded in the exercise with flying colours. The Single Malt Teeling Blackpitts Big Smoke reveals a deep barbecue smoke nuanced by floral, fruit and smoky wood flavours.

A very different whisky from the first Teeling Blackpitts bottling.

This whisky is inspired by the old Blackpitts district just behind the new Teeling Distillery. This district was synonymous with many industries, and in particular maltings. Blackpitts traditionally housed some of Ireland's largest barley malthouses.

*PPM -  phenols parts per million, measuring the influence of the oily smoke peat infusing the germinated barley during the drying process. The longer the exposure, the highest the ppm value is. A well peated Islay whisky reaches a 40-50 ppm. But every whisky still develops its very own character and mouthfeel sensation, depending on the style of each distillery.

TWC is an independent distillery founded by Jack and Stephen Teeling, John’s son, who established the Cooley distillery in 1987.

The Teeling family has been crafting Irish whiskey since 1782, date on which Walter Teeling founded one of the 38 Dubnlin distilleries in Marrowbone Lane in the area of Liberties. This is also in this area, at the heart of Dublin, this Jack and Stephen Teeling opened their own distillery, more than 200 years after their ancestor.

Unlike other Irish distilleries triple-distilling their whiskey, this new distillery distils only twice (pot still) just like the Cooley distillery. It is the only distillery to produce pot still whiskey in all of Dublin. Moreover, Teeling likes varying the whiskey finishes, imparting a real gourmet edge to the traditional Irish character.

Nose: smoke, charcoal, lard, woody, floral, fruity.

Palate: smoke, burnt wood, barbecue, floral, fruity.

Finish: long, smoky.
