Talisker Distillers Edition Amoroso 70cl 45.8°

Distillery : Talisker / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 20698

Isle of Skye has only one distillery - which would be Talisker - and many whisky lovers rank its malt to the top Scotch whiskies, rightfully so.

When reaching bottling age (10 years), each Classic Malt spends another 6 months in refining casks that originate from the Iberian Peninsula, and becomes a Distillers Edition. These casks contained Amoroso Sherry ("In love", in Spanish), that have been reused for the double-maturation of Talisker.

Its unique, peaty, spicy character is bolstered by the cask finish and the care with which it has been aged, making it a delicate, sweet and rich spirit.

This double-maturation magnifies and develops the natural sweetness of Talisker Scotch and tones down its spirited temper. A very sensible choice that results in a successful marriage.

A few miles away from the west coast of the Highlands sits the Isle of Skye, with its rugged coastline and windswept peat lands.

The small coastal town of Carboast, on the shores of Loch Harport and on the foothills of the Cuillins,  is nestled in a region battered by the winds and sea breeze, Talisker. This is where the only one distillery of the island chose to settle – one of the most prestigious and isolated of all.

Back in 1825, Hugh and Kenneth Mac Askill decided to establish themselves on the Isle of Skye. They quickly grew fond of their adoptive region, and rented a plot in Carbost to build, in 1830, the Talisker distillery. Laden with salt, lava and peat, the distillery bottles exceptional Single Malts, known for their spicy, powerful character.

Because of the unique character and quality of Talisker whiskies, the distillery features in the Classic Malts Selection. Created more than 20 years ago, this selection recognises Single Malts crafted in the tradition of iconic distilleries, and offers the most impressive whisky styles Scotland has to offer.

Colour: amber.

Nose: the frank and provoking nose of this golden Island whisky reflects the wonderful alliance between the typical features of Talisker and its lavish sweetness.

Palate: the wood sensation of Amoroso softens the peppery hues of Talisker, mingling together is a warming sweetness.

Finish: the peat and smoke overtake the sweetened undertones.

Best Island Single Malt, World Whiskies Awards 2013.
