A unique, gushing spirit, Laphroaig is a smoky, strongly flavoured whisky, with a palate joining the nose on oaky aromas. It is undoubtely a characterful, vibrant expression.

With a warming, smoky aftertaste, Laphroaig is straight, uncompromising: the rich in seaweed Glenmachrie peat, and Kilbride Dam spring water mingle in the distillation process to provide this unique, peaty flavour and dark colour to Laphroaig.

The 18 Year-Old version is a small batch of Laphroaig, a yearly release only savoured by a privileged few. Sweetened and spicy, this peated Islay whisky unleashes enticing smoky notes whenever one opens the bottle. On the palate, sweet flavours of oak give way to a marine touch accounting for the long maturation on Islay of this Single Malt.

No one knows the full history of Laphroaig as much of it has been lost in the midst of time unfortunately.


For a long time on Islay as in all Scotland, distilling was illegal so no one spoke of the numerous small stills, easy to move around and usually hidden in farms. If you wished a refill, just a nod and a wink in the right direction!


We know that the Johnston’s established a farm in Laphroaig around 1800 as, a while after, Charles & Willie Doig were asked to work “at the distillery”. From 1815, the Laphroaig reputation grew and caught the attention of tax agents who established “officially” Johnston & Johnston. This is how the great Laphroaig adventure began.


It is said a good story is about a good story-teller and who better than one of the former distillery managers? Colour: shimmering gold.

Nose: the delicately spiced, smooth caramel notes contrast with the fruity flavours. A sweetness that immediately envelops the senses. A few drops of water enable a maritime edge to rise, without prevailing on the delicate notes of vanilla and honey. Freshly cut hay and peat develop in the finish.

Palate: An intense, perfectly balanced warm body. The first hit of the smoke gives way to floral notes of roasted hazelnuts and autumn leaves. A sweetness that lingers on the palate. A few drops of water reveal the peat warmth overflowing the mouth and spurs a chocolatey smoothness. A balance of caramel and heathery, smoky peat notes.

Finish: full-bodied, lingering and delicately oily.
