Established in 1881, this Islay distillery faces Bowmore on the other side of the Loch Indaal.

In the past, it produced the less peated and lightest malts of the island, due to its four long-necked stills. As it almost disappeared in 1995, it was purchased by a group of investors who trusted Jim McEwan (former Bowmore employee) with the responsibility over distillation and blending. Since then, it has been a feast of fascinating novelties and releases…

A rare fact in Scotland, the Bruichladdich distillery (“Bruk-ladie”) uses a brewing vat in open air. Its onion-shaped stills have a very flat bottom and a long neck. The very light peated Bruichladdich Single Malt is unfairly underestimated. It reveals indeed a maritime origin with an iodized nose and a salty mouth flavour. Longer maturation imparts a full body to the whisky and makes it a gourmet, elegant malt. Bruichladdich is also perfect when aged in sherry casks.

The distillery produces also two heavily peated whiskies: Port Charlotte and Octomore.

On the nose, this whisky delights with fresh malt aromas, apricot, ripe peach, biscuit, and a hint of coastal iodine. The palate is silky and refined, featuring cereal notes, creamy vanilla, and yellow fruit. The finish, elegant and moderate, blends light honey and saline breeze with medium length and a discreet fruity echo.
