Akkeshi Blended Taisho 70cl 48°

Distillery : Akkeshi / Country : Japan / Reference: : 25592

Taisho is the eighth bottling of the range called "the series of 24 seasons" from the Japanese distillery Akkeshi, in homage to the 24 seasons of the old Asian calendar.

It is a Blended from a blend of grain whiskies and peated malt from Akkeshi. This blend is matured in Mizunara oak barrels. The result is harmonious with a marine touch.

Its name Taisho, which can be translated as "great heat", refers to the hottest period of summer from the end of July to the beginning of August. The design of this bottle recalls the traditional colours of the kimonos worn by visitors during the many festivals and fireworks that also take place during this summer period.

The Japanese distillery Akkeshi produces its whiskeys by combining traditional Scottish methods and unique ingredients from Japan.

The Japanese distillery Akkeshi was founded in 2016 by the company Kenten Jitsugyo whose leader, Keiichi Toita, was seduced by the smoky and peaty notes of Islay malts during his first "unforgettable" experience with a 17-year-old Ardbeg in a bar from Ginza.

Nicknamed little Lagavulin, the Akkeshi distillery is located on the island of Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan, where it enjoys a cool and humid climate with frequent sea fogs reminiscent of the climate of the famous Scottish distillery.

In this lush natural environment, the distillery's guideline is to combine traditional Scottish methods and unique local resources from Japan to craft their Japanese take on Islay Smoked Malt Whiskies.

It will be necessary to wait until 2020 to see the appearance of the first Japanese Single Malt whiskey from the Akkeshi distillery, a true embodiment of local craftsmanship.
