Chichibu distillery, located in Saitama prefecture, north of Tokyo, is owned by Venture Whisky, a Japanese whisky producer under the Ichiro’s Malt brand.
In 2007, Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, started a new chapter in Japan's whisky history by building Chichibu distillery.
Situated about 70km north-west of Tokyo, production began in February 2008.
The equipment includes a small mill, a mash tun, washbacks made of Jpanese oak (mizunara) and a pair of small copper stills manufactured by Forsyths of Rothes, Scotland.
Several different casks types are used, including Bourbon barrels, Sherry butts and Hogsheads, all matured in a traditional Dunnage style warehouse.
Enhanced by their environment, Chichibu whiskies are non-chill filtered and not coloured.
The specificity of this blend whisky is its finish in Japanese oak barrels: Mizunara.
