The thistle represents the scottish emblema as the result of a battle between the Vikings and the Scottish.
In the XIth century, the Vikings had to cross a field of thistles, barefoot. The scottish where alerted by the Vikings' screams, thanks to that, they made a defence line and pushed the enemy.
