Extremely peated Islay Single Malt from a single field, combining powerful smoke with fruit, vanilla and a distinctive coastal salinity.
Octomore 17.3 is a Scottish Single Malt produced by Bruichladdich Distillery on the island of Islay. This expression holds a special place within the Octomore series because it focuses strongly on barley provenance and the direct influence of terroir.
The barley used comes exclusively from Irene’s Field, a plot located on Octomore Farm just a few miles from the distillery. This approach allows the raw material to be traced from its specific field all the way through to the finished whisky.
With a phenol level of 132.1 ppm, the peat is exceptionally intense. Yet the whisky is about far more than smoke. Malt character, orchard fruit, vanilla, citrus and saline notes provide freshness and depth.

Nose: Intense coastal smoke opens with salty, tarry and medicinal notes reminiscent of sea spray, coal smoke and weathered rope. Warm malted grain, brown sugar and fresh barley flour then emerge. Green apple, pear, vanilla and marzipan add sweetness and freshness, accompanied by herbal and floral nuances.
Palate: A dense, oily and peppery texture coats the palate. The oak brings salted caramel, smoked apple and toasted coconut, followed by praline and vanilla cream. The peat gradually becomes deeper with earthy and ashy notes, while citrus and mineral salinity add tension and precision.
Finish: A long, dry and expressive persistence carries malt, soft floral and vanilla notes before moving towards earthy smoke and maritime salt. The peat remains remarkably present, bringing gentle warmth and a deeply coastal character.
