Mount Gay Single Estate 23|01|Bn.Qa 70cl 55°

Brand : Mount Gay / Country : Barbados / Reference: : 25775

The first special edition of the Single Estate series draws its essence from the sugar cane molasses grown on the Mount Gay estate and transformed on site. Designed to showcase its distinctive terroir, this version marks the first time Mount Gay has bottled rum from its own cane since the early 20th century.

This rum, 100% distilled in a copper pot-still by the masters of Mount Gay, is individually numbered to 4002 and presented in its natural hue, without chill filtration. Distillation takes place entirely in copper stills, followed by ageing in old Quercus Alba Bourbon casks.

The new Single Estate series represents an authentic expression of the Mount Gay terroir in Barbados. Mount Gay suggests some remarkable pairings for this version, including grilled sardines, red tuna sushi and manchego cheese!

From 1703 onwards, rum was distilled on Barbados, in the Caribbean. This new drink was named the “kill-devil”.

Sir John Gay was a respected businessman who worked for a greater Barbados. One of his friends, John Sober, inherited a distillery and sought advice from John Gay. The latter became manager of the distillery, refining the distillation process and starting to produce rum of better quality than others on the island.

Mount Gay Rum continued the 300 years of tradition and knowledge.
