El Ron Prohibido (The Prohibited Rum) is distilled in continuous column stills and aged in Sherry casks using the solera method. This process imparts exceptional sweetness and flavours to the rum. The handle on the bottle highlights the singular image of this handmade product and reveals its heritage.
In the 18th century, Spanish ships would leave for the Americas with cargo of Sherry wine. On the way back, they would fill the barrels with Chinguirito (a Mexican rum), and the rum would be flavoured with the Sherry casks during the crossing. This was such a success that King Philippe V of Bourbon prohibited its trade and consumption until 1796.
