This second edition of Bruichladdich Single Malt highlights the unique and genuine character of Islay: the barley grown by local farmers, an initiative encouraged by the distilley, the wind, iodine and heather. The very slow distillation develops barley flavours and aromas, combined with a maturation in carefully selected Bourbon casks, that give impetus to this quite sophisticated whisky. This Single Malt bursts with freshness and oaky notes, with a rich and full-bodied texture where the malt dominates.

Established in 1881, this Islay distillery faces Bowmore on the other side of the Loch Indaal.

In the past, it produced the less peated and lightest malts of the island, due to its four long-necked stills. As it almost disappeared in 1995, it was purchased by a group of investors who trusted Jim McEwan (former Bowmore employee) with the responsibility over distillation and blending. Since then, it has been a feast of fascinating novelties and releases…

A rare fact in Scotland, the Bruichladdich distillery (“Bruk-ladie”) uses a brewing vat in open air. Its onion-shaped stills have a very flat bottom and a long neck. The very light peated Bruichladdich Single Malt is unfairly underestimated. It reveals indeed a maritime origin with an iodized nose and a salty mouth flavour. Longer maturation imparts a full body to the whisky and makes it a gourmet, elegant malt. Bruichladdich is also perfect when aged in sherry casks.

The distillery produces also two heavily peated whiskies: Port Charlotte and Octomore.

100% Islay Barley.

A blast of freshness with lemon, verbena, mint and also tropical fruits (pinneaple and guava). A crisp mouth exhales a supple, fresh fruitiness.
