A great Talisker: quite classic and as refined as its counterparts, but quite confident. A malt full of life, not too serious, a bit on the edge and showing a volcanic temper.

A few miles away from the west coast of the Highlands sits the Isle of Skye, with its rugged coastline and windswept peat lands.

The small coastal town of Carboast, on the shores of Loch Harport and on the foothills of the Cuillins,  is nestled in a region battered by the winds and sea breeze, Talisker. This is where the only one distillery of the island chose to settle – one of the most prestigious and isolated of all.

Back in 1825, Hugh and Kenneth Mac Askill decided to establish themselves on the Isle of Skye. They quickly grew fond of their adoptive region, and rented a plot in Carbost to build, in 1830, the Talisker distillery. Laden with salt, lava and peat, the distillery bottles exceptional Single Malts, known for their spicy, powerful character.

Because of the unique character and quality of Talisker whiskies, the distillery features in the Classic Malts Selection. Created more than 20 years ago, this selection recognises Single Malts crafted in the tradition of iconic distilleries, and offers the most impressive whisky styles Scotland has to offer.

Colour: intense, clear amber with old gold reflections.

Nose: a sweet and smooth attack, a loaf completed with a rich, warm note of dark chocolate, preceeding a subtle hint of raspeberry juice, overflowed with a warm, comforting smoke. Showing through, a buttery cream with oat accents rise with home-baked cake and chocolate sparkling, contrasted with a sharp touch of berry jam and ripe red apples. Late notes of beewax appear then. After dilution, envelops in a smooth, luscious smoke and gives way to mysterious volcanic swirls.

Palate: fresh, salty and smooth, then warm and spicy. Ginger notes and cloves evolve onto rich, malted notes, completed with generous portions of plum-pudding and fruit cake. Swirls of scented pine wood smoke, with rich resins. Supple, silky and bittersweet with a drop of water. The smoke is slowly overflowing the palate.

Finish: lingering and smooth, bringing even more silky and tangy dark chocolate, with ripe, fleshy plums. A lingering warmth with scents from a cedar wood cigar box, and sooty smoke.
