Octomore 17.1 is a Scottish Single Malt produced by Bruichladdich Distillery on the island of Islay. It belongs to the renowned Octomore series, known for pushing the boundaries of peat and alcohol strength while maintaining an impressive sense of balance.
This 17.1 expression is made from Concerto barley grown on the Scottish mainland and malted to 81 ppm. It is matured for five years in first fill Bourbon casks, which bring generous notes of creamy vanilla, sweet malt and toasted oak.
At 59.7% ABV, Octomore 17.1 is bottled at a particularly high strength, close to cask strength. Despite its power, the whisky remains remarkably precise. Dry and earthy smoke develops gradually alongside creamy vanilla, pear, sweet malt, biscuit and warming spice.

Nose : Sweet malt and creamy vanilla open the tasting, accompanied by biscuit, custard tart and pear drop notes. Dry, earthy smoke gradually develops in the background.
Palate : Sweet malt, vanilla and pear combine with deeper smoke reminiscent of glowing embers, charred wood and ash. The high alcohol strength adds intensity while allowing a subtle saline freshness to emerge.
Finish : A long lingering finish extends the dry smoke and glowing oak character. Sweet malt remains present while a touch of salt and ash adds balance and definition.
