2022 Macallan M Black Decanter 70cl 46°

Distillery : The Macallan / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 25167

Macallan M Black Decanter is a tribute to The Macallan's creativity and relentless craftsmanship. A new version of the iconic M Decanter, this expression aims to be, to date, the most complex in the range, which expresses deeper and smokier flavours.

For this remarkable, subtly smoky version, rare black casks that have contained peated whisky have been carefully selected for a first ageing before whisky being transferred to oak barrels seasoned with Sherry. Over time, the whisky takes on its full depth and distinctive notes, albeit imbued with The Macallan signature.

This precious Single Malt is contained in a magnificent decanter handcrafted by designer Fabien Baron in black Lalique crystal, which is even more complex to work with than clear crystal. Each of its six facets represents the founding pillars of The Macallan, in a contemporary style of great elegance.

The Macallan distillery is nestled on the banks of the river Spey, at the heart of Glenlivet, cradle of the great malts.

Located near Graigellachie, the Macallan distillery obtained its first license to distil thanks to Alexander Reid. It was purchased by James Stewart in 1886 (from Glen Spey distillery) who undertook its reconstruction. In 1892, Roderick Kemp took over the ownership of the old farm distillery. It stayed in the Kemp’s family until 1996. Within 10 years (1965 to 1975), the number of stills at Macallan rose from 6 to 21.

The success, brand and popularity of The Macallan are established on the exceptional quality of production, as Macallan maintained traditional methods of whisky elaboration.

All of The Macallan production comes from the same distillery, which makes it a Single Malt. The Macallan is today the fifth best-selling malt in the world. The six golden rules of The Macallan are the reason why it is today the Rolls of Single Malts, according to the widely recognized Harrod’s Guide.

Colour: golden sunrise, 100% natural.

Nose: apple, pear and fresh citrus combined with sweet dates turning into a light and subtle peat.

Palate: candied oranges, charred peaches and honeyed figs combined with sultana, decadent dark chocolate, emerging in warming peat and spicy ginger.

Finish: long peat smoke and sweet raisin.
