Craigellachie 13 Years Old Armagnac 70cl 46°

Distillery : Craigellachie / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 25658

This 13-year-old Craigellachie was first aged in ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks, before being transferred to Armagnac casks from the Bas-Armagnac region for a year.

Stephanie Macleod, the cellar master, carefully monitored this finish so that it brought roundness and fruity aromas to a Craigellachie with an intense taste.

Its profile is round, intense and fruity. Aromas of cooked apples, cinnamon and caramel balanced by notes of pineapple in syrup.

Built in 1891, Craigellachie Distillery sits in the heart of Speyside.  To cool down the alcohol vapors after distillation Craigellachie uses traditional worm tubs as only few distilleries still do.

Worm tubs are an old-fashioned condensing system, an intestine-like ring of metal coils submerged in cold water. It is through these coils that the spirit is passed and cooled slowly, resulting in a curiously meatier spirit.

The whisky-making water itself is taken from a spring on the nearby hill of Little Conval and collected in the large Blue Hill dam.

Craigellachie takes its malted barley from a particular oil-fired kiln in Glenesk, which is what lends desirable sulphur to the spirit and adds to its famed heavy character.

Thanks to this heritage, Craigellachie is an ambitious and singular whisky which can be tasted just as you prefer.
