For the 2023 edition of Diageo's Special Release range, master blender Stuart Morrison draws inspiration from the flavours of Japan and delivers a vibrant Mortlach never before encountered.

Katana's Edge brings a unique and subtle influence through its finishing in old Kanosuke Japanese whisky white oak barrels and old French Pinot Noir oak barrels.

Bottled at natural strength, its aromatic profile is richly fruity and deep with beautiful complexity.

Mortlach is a distillery located in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland. It was created in 1823, the year when the first authorizations to distill were granted ("Law of the consumption tax").


This is the first distillery built in Dufftown, and there are now around ten. The distillery was purchased by Johnnie Walker in 1923. It now belongs to the Diageo group.


Throughout the Second World War, Mortlach was one of the few distilleries in Scotland able to produce whisky in limited quantities.


The distillery has the particularity of producing whisky with 2.8 distillations: 80% of the product is distilled three times, and the remaining 20% is distilled only twice.


The taste characteristic of Mortlach is its fleshy side, which is linked to the traditional flavour of Speyside

Colour: intense gold.

Nose: sweet and fresh with fruity notes of melon and pear supported by notes of leather and spices.

Palate: rich, thick and delicate, with a deep, fruity and lively taste, both sweet and delicately salty. A dry spicy side adds a touch of character.

Finish: long, dry, spicy and warm, with a lingering sweet-salty intensity and slightly refreshing fruity notes.
