Tremendously rich and full-bodied, 12 Year-Old Dalmore is the quintessential style of Dalmore house. Aged in American white oak Bourbon barrels for 9 years, the whisky is then carefully divided. Half of it continues its maturation in Bourbon barrels, the other half being transferred to Oloroso Sherry casks.

This maturation process conveys richness and depth to Dalmore 12 Years Old, with a beautiful mahogany colour and citrus fruit aromas coated with chocolate, spices, roasted coffee and vanilla. This spirit is at the same time robust and elegant, with a wonderfully complex aftertaste.

Established in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, this Northern Highlands distillery owns a very old still which neck is cooled by a water stream, which clears the distillate from its heaviest elements.


This might explain its ability to age for a long period (more than 50 years), even if a bottle of that age is extremely rare and pricey. The Dalmore is one of the rare distilleries that used to be managed by a woman, between 1860 and 1866. When the Mackenzie family bought the distillery in 1866, she brought with her the symbol of the clan – a stag head with twelve horns – meaning “royal”, labeled on each bottle released by the distillery. In  1960, the distillery merged with the Whyte & Mackay company, founded by Mackenzie relatives.

Colour: amber with copper glow.

Nose: quite expressive, herbal and malted, revealing wonderful floral aromas and notes of ripe fruits (peach, apricot), opens up on brioche, cocoa powder and orange marmalade flavours.

Palate: an amazing balance between sweet and sour, very appealing and supple, plunging into deep orange aromas and lingering onto walnuts and a subtle hint of salt.

Finish: long, herbaceous (menthol, chlorophyll), with lingering salty notes.
