Talisker 18 Years Old 70cl 45.8°

Distillery : Talisker / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 20737

This Single Malt results from a combination of refill American and European oak casks that previously contained Bourbon and Sherry. It is the first 18 Year-Old Single Malt ever bottled by the distillery.

This Talisker is all at once subtle and powerful, surprisingly fruity without losing its dry and spicy mouthfeel sensation.

Adding a splash of water reveals a maritime temper, over a bed of seaweed and kelp. Stays smooth all along and releases powerful iodine notes.

A few miles away from the west coast of the Highlands sits the Isle of Skye, with its rugged coastline and windswept peat lands.

The small coastal town of Carboast, on the shores of Loch Harport and on the foothills of the Cuillins,  is nestled in a region battered by the winds and sea breeze, Talisker. This is where the only one distillery of the island chose to settle – one of the most prestigious and isolated of all.

Back in 1825, Hugh and Kenneth Mac Askill decided to establish themselves on the Isle of Skye. They quickly grew fond of their adoptive region, and rented a plot in Carbost to build, in 1830, the Talisker distillery. Laden with salt, lava and peat, the distillery bottles exceptional Single Malts, known for their spicy, powerful character.

Because of the unique character and quality of Talisker whiskies, the distillery features in the Classic Malts Selection. Created more than 20 years ago, this selection recognises Single Malts crafted in the tradition of iconic distilleries, and offers the most impressive whisky styles Scotland has to offer.

Colour: amber.

Nose: dense and fruity, bursting with ripe fruits (Queen Victoria plum, greengage plum, dry orange peel). Evolves on salted butter caramel notes and rum with smoky undertones. Seaweed and iodine underline a mentholated freshness.

Palate: full and supple. Soft smoky attack, very warm overall, developing on smoke hues and caramel.

Finish: long and firm, allspice and pepper, iodine and salt blend, with a trail of citrus fruits (oranges), precious wood and leather.

Best Malt in the World, Whisky Magazine 2007.

Comes along perfectly with smoked salmon, old Comté cheese or dark chocolate. May be served as digestive with Beaufort cheese or smoked eel.
