Dalmore Luminary Edition 2 70cl 48.6°

New Dalmore Luminary Edition 2 70cl 48.6°

Distillery : The Dalmore / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 25932

The Luminary collection from the Scottish distillery The Dalmore brings together three Single Malts produced by leading figures in the world of whiskey and architectural design. This second edition is produced in collaboration with the architect Melodie Leung and the Master whiskey maker and blender of the house of Alness, Greg Glass. Together, they found inspiration in the roasted chestnut flavors of their childhood.

Dalmore Luminary N° 2 is matured for 16 years in ex-Bourbon American white oak barrels and finished in a blend of three exceptional barrels:

  • - a barrel of Graham’s Tawny Port;
  • - an exceptional cask of a 30-year-old Apostolès Sherry;
  • - a hybrid barrel from 1951 in virgin oak The Dalmore, air-dried and toasted by Greg Glass, which brings a very light peaty touch.

This exceptional Single Malt develops a warm profile around notes of crème brûlée, citrus fruits and roasted chestnuts enveloped in light peat.

Established in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, this Northern Highlands distillery owns a very old still which neck is cooled by a water stream, which clears the distillate from its heaviest elements.

This might explain its ability to age for a long period (more than 50 years), even if a bottle of that age is extremely rare and pricey. The Dalmore is one of the rare distilleries that used to be managed by a woman, between 1860 and 1866. When the Mackenzie family bought the distillery in 1866, she brought with her the symbol of the clan – a stag head with twelve horns – meaning “royal”, labeled on each bottle released by the distillery. In  1960, the distillery merged with the Whyte & Mackay company, founded by Mackenzie relatives.

Nose: Manuka honey, crème brûlée and antique leather, with delicate tropical notes of pomegranate, guava and cherry blossom.

Palate : ripe figs, Seville oranges, wild berries, passion fruit, lightly roasted Colombian coffee, fermented black limes and brioche.

Finish: freshly roasted chestnuts, sweet woody spices, dark cocoa and Alphonso mangoes with a delicate whisper of herbal wood smoke.
