Old Pulteney Navigator 70cl 46°

Distillery : Old Pulteney / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 23177

This beautiful limited edition Old Pulteney Navigator is inspired by one of the most ambitious maritime adventures in the world, the Clipper Round the World Race in which the distillery sponsored its own team in 2013-2014.

This Single Malt pays tribute to the link between the distillery and the ocean. It is marked by the marine spray which caressed during the maturation of the whisky, ex barrels of Sherry and Bourbon having served for its assembly.

The result is a rich and full-bodied whisky, with aromas of cocoa, honey and orange on a background of marine flavours.

Not only is Old Pulteney the most northern distillery of Scotland (Orkneys excepted), but the distillery has many other reasons to capture the mind of the malt aficionados…

Property of Allied Domecq, Old Pulteney was purchased at the end of the last century by Inver House, who wishes to focus on the twelve-year old version, even if the malt is also greatly appreciated by blenders.

This change of ownership was followed by refurbishments and renovations works, but this never changed the true style of the distillery. The wide, bellying and imposing stills are developing into an intricate pipe system, distributing the precious distillate through copper spirals and curves.

Is this why Old Pulteney is so fascinating and so richly aromatic? The peat is there, a hint or a scoop of it depending on the bottling, together with cereals, sherry sometimes, for some blends. But let’s not forget the sea, everywhere from the nose to the glass, through its salty and iodized accent of rare strength.

Colour: golden honeycomb.

Nose: sweet and crisp with notes of tangy apples and dried fruits as well as chocolate and fresh vanilla.

Palate: rich and full-bodied. It presents a beautiful aromatic palette combining cocoa, honey and orange.

Finish: long and spicy with a touch of seasalt at the end.
