Old Pulteney 15 Years Old 70cl 46°

Distillery : Old Pulteney / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 23709

Old Pulteney 15 years is the new expression of the Pulteney distillery. This Single Malt is aged in Bourbon cask and refined in Sherry cask.

It reveals a new facet of the distillery with its intense marine character and its salty and iodine accents. Intensely gourmet and rich, it transports us immediately off the Highlands coasts.

A very nice edition of the distillery, generous and delicate.

Not only is Old Pulteney the most northern distillery of Scotland (Orkneys excepted), but the distillery has many other reasons to capture the mind of the malt aficionados…

Property of Allied Domecq, Old Pulteney was purchased at the end of the last century by Inver House, who wishes to focus on the twelve-year old version, even if the malt is also greatly appreciated by blenders.

This change of ownership was followed by refurbishments and renovations works, but this never changed the true style of the distillery. The wide, bellying and imposing stills are developing into an intricate pipe system, distributing the precious distillate through copper spirals and curves.

Is this why Old Pulteney is so fascinating and so richly aromatic? The peat is there, a hint or a scoop of it depending on the bottling, together with cereals, sherry sometimes, for some blends. But let’s not forget the sea, everywhere from the nose to the glass, through its salty and iodized accent of rare strength.

Nose: intense. Creamy with notes of dried fruit, apples and citrus. Honey aromas and a generous note of creamy vanilla appear. Slightly chocolaty and floral in the background.

Palate: salty. Fragrant spices, chocolate, vanilla and orange zest.

Finish: a hint of salty sea air in the finish with notes of smoke and sweet fruit.

Silver Medal, Best Single Malt from the Highlands category between 13 and 20 years old, World Whiskeys Awards 2023.
