Every year, lovers of peated whiskies eagerly await the event: Ardbeg Day. A true cult event for fans of the Scottish distillery, this festive day marks the end of the famous Fèis Ìle festival on the island of Islay and sees the launch of a much-anticipated limited edition.
For the 2026 edition, Ardbeg takes us on a journey into a world that is more indulgent than ever with the highly anticipated Ardbeg Dolce, a single malt in which the distillery’s signature smokiness meets a surprisingly rich and sweet aromatic profile.
Officially founded in 1815 on the south coast of the Isle of Islay, the Ardbeg distillery is one of the leading names in Scottish peated whisky. Amidst sea mist, Atlantic storms and ever-present peat, every whisky produced here possesses that instantly recognisable smoky character.
A visit to Ardbeg is much more than just a distillery tour: it’s an immersion in a unique atmosphere. With its windswept warehouses, iconic stills and typically warm Scottish welcome, the place exudes a real sense of character. It’s hard not to fall under the spell of this distillery with its turbulent history, which came close to closing down several times before becoming one of the most admired names among peat enthusiasts today.
Created as part of the Fèis Ìle festival, Ardbeg Day has, over the years, become a global event celebrated by fans of the distillery from all corners of the globe. Every year, Ardbeg devises a quirky and immersive theme centred around a new limited edition released especially for the occasion.
Punk rock, science fiction, smugglers, dragons and Caribbean themes: the distillery never lacks imagination when it comes to offering its enthusiasts an experience that is as festive as it is original.
Ardbeg Day is also an opportunity for enthusiasts to get together for tastings, events, masterclasses and to discover the distillery’s latest releases.
For Ardbeg Day 2026, the distillery is unveiling Ardbeg Dolce, a particularly appealing limited edition that strikes a balance between peaty power and rich, indulgent flavours.
This Islay single malt was initially matured in bourbon casks before being finished in Sicilian Marsala casks. This maturation process lends a rounder, more pastry-like quality to Ardbeg’s typically intense style.
On the palate, the distillery’s characteristic smokiness blends with notes of ripe apricot, orange marmalade, toasted dried fruit and dark chocolate. The finish reveals a lovely complexity with woody and smoky notes reminiscent of burnt apple wood.
A blend that should appeal to both die-hard Ardbeg fans and those who prefer richer, more indulgent whiskies.
The limited edition Ardbeg Dolce will be available from 27 May 2026, ahead of the Ardbeg Day celebrations scheduled for early June.
For several years now, Ardbeg Day has also been synonymous with original creations that have become must-haves for collectors and peat enthusiasts:
Each release tells a story, explores new innovations and helps to cement Ardbeg’s reputation among lovers of peated whisky.
As every year, Ardbeg Day promises to bring peat enthusiasts together for a convivial and festive occasion. With the launch of Ardbeg Dolce, tastings and activities around the distillery, this year’s event is already shaping up to be a must-attend on the whisky calendar.
Whether you’re a collector, a seasoned enthusiast or simply curious to discover the world of Ardbeg, get ready to celebrate once again one of Islay’s most iconic distilleries.
