Teeling 15y Japanese Edition 70cl 46°

New Teeling 15y Japanese Edition 70cl 46°
Distillery : Teeling / Country : Ireland / Reference: : 26143

This new Explorers Series 15-Year-Old Japanese Edition is indeed highly innovative, and pushes the boundaries of Irish whisky craft with the use of rare Mugi Shochu casks. Shochu, a Japanese brandy, is usually made from barley, rice, sweet potatoes or other local ingredients; Mugi Shochu, in particular, is made from barley, which blends particularly well with the profile of Irish single malts.
Aging Irish whisky in Shochu casks is rare, and lends this expression a unique complexity. Shochu casks, particularly those that have contained Mugi Shochu, impart subtle aromas and sweet flavors, bringing umami notes, herbal nuances and a slightly saline profile. Aging in Mugi Shochu casks can soften the flavors and enrich the texture of the whisky, while preserving the distinctive qualities of Irish whiskies: sweetness, lightness and fruitiness.
This fusion of Irish and Japanese styles brings a fresh perspective to this 15-year-old edition, and is perfect for lovers of experimental whiskies and balanced flavors, with a great story behind every sip.

TWC is an independent distillery founded by Jack and Stephen Teeling, John’s son, who established the Cooley distillery in 1987.

The Teeling family has been crafting Irish whiskey since 1782, date on which Walter Teeling founded one of the 38 Dubnlin distilleries in Marrowbone Lane in the area of Liberties. This is also in this area, at the heart of Dublin, this Jack and Stephen Teeling opened their own distillery, more than 200 years after their ancestor.

Unlike other Irish distilleries triple-distilling their whiskey, this new distillery distils only twice (pot still) just like the Cooley distillery. It is the only distillery to produce pot still whiskey in all of Dublin. Moreover, Teeling likes varying the whiskey finishes, imparting a real gourmet edge to the traditional Irish character.

Nose: Elegant and delicate, with floral, honey, pear and green apple aromas. Hints of green tea, sandalwood and vanilla also emerge, characteristic of Japanese oak aging or styles inspired by it.

Palate: Smooth and creamy, with flavors of white-fleshed fruit, acacia honey and light nutty notes. Hints of sweet spices like nutmeg and cinnamon add complexity without ever dominating the profile.

Finish: Long and harmonious, leaving notes of precious wood, dried fruit and a slight impression of toasted hazelnut.
