Lagavulin 8 Years Old 70cl 48°

Distillery : Lagavulin / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 22877

This whisky has won a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018.

In 2016, the mythical Lagavulin distillery of Islay celebrates its 200th anniversary and has launched the Lagavulin 8 Years Old. This exceptional Single Malt has been produced from a selection of high quality casks.

Georgie Crawford, Lagavulin Master Distiller, chose to feature a bit of Lagavulin's history with Alfred Barnard, English historian and first whisky specialist and journalist at the end of the 1880. He is said to have considered Lagavulin as "one of the few distilleries able to produce quality Single Malt". When he discovered the distillery, he described an 8 year-old Lagavulin as "exceptionnally fine".

200 years later Lagavulin 8 Years Old offers the same characteristics that captured Alfred Barnard's mind: a refined 48° ABV Single Malt, with a light texture infused with a smoky sweetness and an incredible blend of peppermint and dark chocolate.

The distillery has been built in 1816 on the South-East coast of Islay, not far from the ruins of Dunyvaig castle, the old fortress of the Lord of the Isles. Lagavulin produces a Single Malt almost as legendary as the island where it was born.

Among all the Islay malts, renowned for their peaty and smoky character, Lagavulin stands out for its depth and complexity: powerful and intensely peaty, it is also rich and round, almost mellow in the mouth. It is this double personality that makes it possible to better understand the exceptional "strength cask" versions offered by the distillery. The unique character and quality of Lagavulin whiskies allows the distillery to be part of the Classic Malts Selection. Created more than 20 years ago, the latter combines Single Malts, from the know-how of emblematic distilleries, to offer you the essentials of the great terroirs of Scotland.

Made in the birthplace of distilling, this iconic Islay malt is intense and smoky, steeped in history and tradition for over two hundred years.

Colour: pale gold.

Nose: sweet with delicate refreshing notes of mentholated dark chocolate, pepper and sea breeze. Quickly, subtle notes of grains, lemon and orange unfold together with subtle berry fruit notes.

Palate: very typical of Lagavulin, a light silky texture with round smoky notes that grow drier and drier. The tasting offers dark chocolate flavours with mentholated notes and salty roast brine.

Finish: clean, sharp, long and smoky, an intensely balanced style that set this tasty, smoky Lagavulin expression apart.

Double gold medal, San Francisco World Spirits Awards, 2018.
