The power of plain teas
Plain tea is not synonymous with bland or tasteless tea, this is actually the opposite! Powerful, plain teas, rich in aroma, are perfect to start the day!
The different plain teas
Even though all teas come from the same plant, there are several types of teas: black, green and white. It is the manufacturing and drying method that differs from one tea to another.
Black tea is cooked, oxidized, which gives it this dark colour and taste. It is stronger in theine than other types of teas because it is infused longer. There are different types of plain black teas:
- Breakfast tea, a “so British” black tea widely consumed by Anglo-Saxons. It is above all a blend of black teas, with full-bodied and robust notes, whose success depends on the choice of the different teas that compose it.
- Afternoon tea, a blend of black teas traditionally enjoyed in the afternoon during Tea Time.
- Darjeeling tea, black tea considered to be the most popular in the world. It comes from Darjeeling and its region in West Bengal, India.
Green tea is simply dried, so its green colour is preserved. It contains more polyphenols than black tea due to the difference in processing, so it is richer in antioxidants.
White tea is a fine and delicate tea. It is made up of leaf buds that have remained in their natural state and undergone only two operations: withering and drying. It is particularly subtle on the palate.
Tasting
Plain black tea is perfect to enjoy in the morning for breakfast, with a little cloud of milk to sweeten the drink.
Green and white teas are best enjoyed throughout the day, both before or after a meal. Depending on your preferences, you can also add sugar, honey or lemon.
As a reminder, tea is composed of caffeine, so it is not advisable to drink it before bed, it would be better to favour herbal teas and infusions.
