Hot Chocolate Powder

Hot chocolate powder is a drink that originated in Latin America. The Mayans and Aztecs in Mexico considered hot chocolate a magical beverage. Cocoa beans were highly prized, and could even be used as currency. The method of making hot chocolate in those days was as follows: cocoa beans were roasted and ground to create a paste, which was then diluted with chillies in hot water.

History of Hot Chocolate

In 1492, Christopher Columbus tasted hot chocolate when he arrived in America. He was disappointed by its bitter taste. A century later, cocoa beans were brought back to Spain, where they were mixed with cane sugar to sweeten the drink. The result was a divinely delicious drink. In 1615, hot chocolate arrived in Paris thanks to Anne of Austria, daughter of the King of Spain, who brought some back with her when she married King Louis XIII of France.
