Gilbert (the brand) was created in 1823, a student named William Webb Ellis decided to play football with his hand. A ball has been especially made for this purpose, rugby is born.
In 1835, with the increasing success of this sport, the idea of an oval ball flottes in William Gilbert's mind.
He decides to create its own ball with an oval shape. Easier to carry on the payers chest. In 1851, he becomes famous and presents his work at London's Universal Exhibition.
In 1862, Gilbert work is rewarded with the silver medal. The company grows are exports its products to the british colonies.
Gilbert is present in most of the nations(France, South Africa, England...) and is also the official supplier of Newport Gwent Dragons team, Bulls and Lions.
