The Angostura brand takes its name from the town of the same name and renamed Ciudad Bolívar, in Venezuela. Back in 1824, Dr. Siegert developed a "bitter" with plant extracts to cure sick soldiers: this how was created the famous aromatic Angostura. The doctor’s son took over the development of bitters on the island of Trinidad and Angostura became official supplier of the King of Prussia, Spain and England.

In 1945, expertise in rum distillation became more prominent as the company witnessed the arrival of a chemist and a specialist in sugar refinery. The company develops its own yeast for the fermentation of rum and its own cooperage. Angostura became then a worldwide famous company.
