The origin of the Kyrö Distillery dates back to a sauna session where a group of friends were tasting rye whiskey and wondered why Finland lacked rye whiskey production. The idea of starting their own distillery persisted the next day, marking the start of Kyrö's journey.
And rye continues to be the focal point of their production. Despite the challenges posed by rye's temperament, they use exclusively whole Finnish rye in their spirits, whether whiskey or gin.

Looking for a suitable location, the founders explored a family farm in Isokyrö, although it did not meet their grand aspirations. By chance, they came across an abandoned dairy, albeit filled with cars rented by former workers, which eventually became their distillery.

The inaugural distillation took place hastily in head distiller Kalle's parents' house, converted into a fermentation space. Despite logistical challenges, they borrowed a still from Beerhunters in Pori, resulting in a liquid the color reminiscent of moonlight. To test their product, Miika quietly handed out samples at the London Whiskey Show, receiving positive praise.

In 2014, they heated the stills for the first time in the dairy and served their first drinks at the pop-up speakeasy “Isokyrö Tourist Agency” in Helsinki.
Realizing the importance of diversification, they began producing gin, which proved successful, winning accolades and selling quickly.

Today, Kyrö Distillery has grown from just an idea to a thriving craft powerhouse, maintaining its commitment to using 100% Finnish whole rye in all its products.
