Bruichladdich The Organic 2011 70cl 50°

Distillery : Bruichladdich / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 25218

Bruichladdich The Organic is a Single Malt produced from barley grown organically on the Mid Coul farm, located near Inverness in the north of Scotland.

This 2011 vintage, distilled slowly in large narrow-neck stills, is the result of ageing for 11 years in first-fill Bourbon barrels.

The result is surprisingly fresh, of great aromatic richness with a delicate floral spirit, vanilla and creamy fudges, some fruits and sweet spices. In short, a luxurious tasting that lets the terroir of the Highlands express itself in the mouth.

Established in 1881, this Islay distillery faces Bowmore on the other side of the Loch Indaal.

In the past, it produced the less peated and lightest malts of the island, due to its four long-necked stills. As it almost disappeared in 1995, it was purchased by a group of investors who trusted Jim McEwan (former Bowmore employee) with the responsibility over distillation and blending. Since then, it has been a feast of fascinating novelties and releases…

A rare fact in Scotland, the Bruichladdich distillery (“Bruk-ladie”) uses a brewing vat in open air. Its onion-shaped stills have a very flat bottom and a long neck. The very light peated Bruichladdich Single Malt is unfairly underestimated. It reveals indeed a maritime origin with an iodized nose and a salty mouth flavour. Longer maturation imparts a full body to the whisky and makes it a gourmet, elegant malt. Bruichladdich is also perfect when aged in sherry casks.

The distillery produces also two heavily peated whiskies: Port Charlotte and Octomore.

Nose: aromatic, floral and generously fruity with notes of pear, creamy on vanilla and fudge with a touch of oak.

Palate: creamy, vanilla, hint of toasted malt.

Finish: long and balanced with maritime and oak flavours, between land and sea.
