Built in 1930, the Carrère distillery is located on the reliefs of the plain of Petit-Bourg in Guadeloupe. It was weakened by the difficult periods of the World Wars and its activity gradually weakened.

It was not until 1975 with the acquisition of Jean Marsolle and his son Alain, a family native to the island, that the distillery came alive again with the arrival of new equipment. It was then that the first rums were marketed under the name Montebello, in reference to the district where it is located.

Since then, it has known its golden age and is the 3rd distillery in Guadeloupe in terms of production volume. Since 2012, the distillery has stood out for its process of recycling waste from the crushing of sugar cane and uses the cane residue as fuel for the presses.
