Lagavulin 12 Years Old 2021 Special Release 70cl 56.5°
This 12-year-old Single Malt, both prestigious and classic, combines sweetness, intensity and salinity in a perfect balance, all enveloped in a fragrant wood smoke.
James Logan Mackie and his nephew Peter, the first managers of the Lagavulin distillery - one of the oldest on the island - had a reputation for moving heaven and earth to obtain the most intense flavours: a perseverance that marks every sip of this legendary whisky.
Its inviting golden hue does not let us imagine the lemon, the salty-sweetness and the roasted tea that come with the first sip. Powerful notes of blackened wood follow, leading to a long, warming and drying finish in which chilli pepper and great waves of smoke resurface.
This classic 12-year-old Lagavulin is striking in every way: the King of Islay in his prime.
The Special Releases series from Maison Diageo is a set of limited edition bottlings. This highly coveted collection is recognized and appreciated. For its 2021 edition, Diageo has chosen 8 cask-strength Single Malt Scotch whiskies from rare and original casks.
Built in 1816 on the South-East coast of Islay, not far from the ruins of Dunyvaig castle, old fortress of the Lord of the Isles, the Lagavulin distillery produces a Single Malt almost as legendary as the island where it was born.
Amongst Islay malts recognized for their peated and smoky character, Lagavulin is known for its complexity and depth: powerful, intensely peated, it is also rich, round and mellow. This double character is the key to appreciate the two new versions bottled at cask strength recently released by the distillery. The unique quality and style of Lagavulin whiskies ranks the distillery in the Classic Malts Selection. Created more than 20 years ago, this selection recognises Single Malts crafted in the tradition of iconic distilleries, and offers the most impressive whisky styles Scotland has to offer.
