Distillery : Lagavulin / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 24812

This 12-year-old Single Malt, both prestigious and classic, combines sweetness, intensity and salinity in a perfect balance, all enveloped in a fragrant wood smoke.

James Logan Mackie and his nephew Peter, the first managers of the Lagavulin distillery - one of the oldest on the island - had a reputation for moving heaven and earth to obtain the most intense flavours: a perseverance that marks every sip of this legendary whisky.

Its inviting golden hue does not let us imagine the lemon, the salty-sweetness and the roasted tea that come with the first sip. Powerful notes of blackened wood follow, leading to a long, warming and drying finish in which chilli pepper and great waves of smoke resurface.

This classic 12-year-old Lagavulin is striking in every way: the King of Islay in his prime.

The Special Releases series from Maison Diageo is a set of limited edition bottlings. This highly coveted collection is recognized and appreciated. For its 2021 edition, Diageo has chosen 8 cask-strength Single Malt Scotch whiskies from rare and original casks.

The distillery has been built in 1816 on the South-East coast of Islay, not far from the ruins of Dunyvaig castle, the old fortress of the Lord of the Isles. Lagavulin produces a Single Malt almost as legendary as the island where it was born.

Among all the Islay malts, renowned for their peaty and smoky character, Lagavulin stands out for its depth and complexity: powerful and intensely peaty, it is also rich and round, almost mellow in the mouth. It is this double personality that makes it possible to better understand the exceptional "strength cask" versions offered by the distillery. The unique character and quality of Lagavulin whiskies allows the distillery to be part of the Classic Malts Selection. Created more than 20 years ago, the latter combines Single Malts, from the know-how of emblematic distilleries, to offer you the essentials of the great terroirs of Scotland.

Made in the birthplace of distilling, this iconic Islay malt is intense and smoky, steeped in history and tradition for over two hundred years.

Nose: aromas of iodine, toasted tea, cocoa, lemon and dried seaweed accompanied by a powerful smoke.

Palate: notes of lemon juice, sea salt, burnt wood.

Finish: long, warming and drying with notes of intense peated smoke and pepper.
