Caol Ila 9 Years Old 2011 INK3 S.V. 70cl 46°
This edition of Caol Ila 9 years is part of our INK #3 series selected by our experts and Signatory Vintage exclusively at Le Comptoir Irlandais.
Its name means "Strait of Islay" in Gaelic. The distillery sits on a cove near Port Askaig, surrounded by a hill covered in fuchsias, foxgloves and rosehips, to the peaty loch above, where the water flows: mineral and salty. Built in 1846, the distillery was completely remodeled in the 1970s and is the largest on the island!
Close to smoked malted barley, Caol Ila whisky is also marine, vegetal, oily and peaty. The recent official bottlings, particularly expressive, have an intense peaty and smoky character as well as a nice sweet / salty balance.
Single Malt distilled in 2011 and aged 9 years in Rechar Hogshead (reconstituted and re-burnt cask).
Bottled without chill-filtration or colouring.
