Bunnahabhain Staoisha Feuillettes AK Collection 70cl 49°
Bunnahabhain! A cult name that evokes pretty things in the eyes of amateurs! "Staoisha" is generally used by independent bottlers for "heavily peated". Lenaïck, with her unconditional passion for whisky, peat and the rich French terroirs, comes here to marry the best of both!
This Bunnahabhain was distilled in 2013. Very peaty, it required a lot of work during its young life to bring it maturity and great wealth.
It aged 6 years in two 250L barrels bringing balance and maturity to this powerful distillate. These two barrels were then separated into two "cuvées". The first "cuvée" is aged in small barrels called "Feuillettes" having contained French wine from Château Margaux and Spanish Sherry.
Aromatic power guaranteed on this opposition of style between the peated whiskies of Islay and the great wines of the regions of Bordeaux in France and Jerez in Spain ...
The whisky takes on a superb dark red hue here and above all explodes on the palate with aromas of smoked fruit and spices!
"Octaves" (20 to 40L) and "Feuillettes" (110L) are terms used to designate small barrels, as opposed to the traditional Barrels (180L), Barrels (228L), Hogsheads (250L) and Butts (500L).
The small barrels used for these two Bunnahabhain "Octaves" and "Feuillettes" accelerate and intensify aging, their small sizes literally concentrate the aromas of the whole and promote an energetic exchange between the distillate and the wood!
