Currach Wakame Sake Finish 70cl 50.1°

Country : Ireland / Reference: : 25771

The first whiskey to be matured in seaweed-toasted barrels, this Currach is a true innovation in the world of whiskey. This Single Malt is aged in American ex-Bourbon oak barrels then finished for 8 months in oak barrels toasted with Kombu and Wakamé seaweed, two expressions with umami notes, which will surprise Irish whiskey lovers. Finally, the whiskey spends 6 to 8 weeks in ex-sake barrels, a traditional Japanese wine made from rice, which brings a delicate and floral side to the Single Malt.

This whiskey demonstrates the association of two terroirs: when malted barley from the south-east of Ireland meets Gohyakumangoku rice from Niigata, in the Japanese region of Chubu. The result is a complex whiskey, between land and sea, with beautiful notes of umami.

Currach is a distillery created by the Origin Spirits Ireland Ltd group which also creates Kalak Single Malt Vodka and Ornabrak Single Malt Gin.

Each product is designed to pay tribute and use the best of Irish soil. Origin Spirits creates avant-garde spirits and has decided to keep this particularity when designing its Currach whisky. It is thus the first Whisky with a finish in cask toasted with local seaweed.

The name Currach is a tribute to the hand-built boats which allowed Irish monks to explore distant lands, they played a vital role in the development of the island and its trade.
