Ardnahoe is the 9th distillery on the island of Islay, created in 2017 by the Hunter Laing family, designed with Jim Mc Ewan and offers, for their first official bottling, a peaty Inaugural expression which registers as "a new Islay classic " !
Ardnahoe, 9th distillery on Islay
Created in 2017 a few kilometers north of Port Askaig with a breathtaking panorama of the island of Jura, Ardnahoe is the 9th distillery on the legendary Islay, in Scotland.
Belonging to the famous Hunter Laing family of bottlers, it remains on a human scale with an annual production limited to 600,000 LAP. Its construction was supervised by Jim Mac Ewan, Malt genius, and the distillery has many technical specifications: Bobby mill from 1920 with 4 rollers, long fermentations (70 to 75 hours), single pair of stills, longer necks Scottish swan (7.5 m), wooden cooling pools (the only ones on the island). The barrels are exceptional, with a large majority of first-fill barrels.
Considering for years that this was the ideal degree for bottling a whisky, Ardnahoe Single Malts all display a minimum of 50°.
A strong affinity with Islay
Drawing on their experience as a blender and bottler of Scotch whisky, the Laing family have developed a strong affinity for Islay and a respect for its distinctive peated malt whiskies.
It was therefore natural that they found the perfect location near Loch Ardnahoe, in the north-east of the island, with access to the deep waters of the Loch. It is from this location that Ardnahoe whiskeys take their name, which means “height of the hollow” in Scottish Gaelic and which perfectly describes the magnificent setting in which the distillery is located.
