Mortlach Special Release 2022 70cl 57.8°

Distillery : Mortlach / Country : Scotland / Reference: : 25208

This Diageo Special Release 2022 collection pushes the doors of new maturation experiments and offers a Single Malt Mortlach in a new register.

We find the rich and meaty taste recognizable from Mortlach productions but with a finish in a combination of Tawny Port, red Muscat and virgin oak wine barrels, that is completely new to it.

Giving it robust aromas of wine and sweet grapes, its intense, lively and slightly fruity taste stands out for its depth and the spicy heat of ginger.

This finish also enhances its deep amber colour to tend towards a brilliant ruby red that inspires the label of this bottle, with a blood-red moon in a night sky and a mystical inspiration from the Beast of Dufftown.

Mortlach is a distillery located in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland. It was created in 1823, the year when the first authorizations to distill were granted ("Law of the consumption tax").

This is the first distillery built in Dufftown, and there are now around ten. The distillery was purchased by Johnnie Walker in 1923. It now belongs to the Diageo group.

Throughout the Second World War, Mortlach was one of the few distilleries in Scotland able to produce whisky in limited quantities.

The distillery has the particularity of producing whisky with 2.8 distillations: 80% of the product is distilled three times, and the remaining 20% is distilled only twice.

The taste characteristic of Mortlach is its fleshy side, which is linked to the traditional flavour of Speyside

Colour: shiny gold with ruby reflections.

Nose: robust and rich notes reminiscent of caramel, dark chocolate and bitter coffee, accompanied by intriguing aromas of grapes and red wine mingle and then mineralize.

Palate: rich and creamy texture on the palate, while the deep and intense taste is slightly fruity and spicy, the virgin oak makes its presence felt. Notes of ginger mingle with this harmonious and powerful combination between fruitiness and the spiciness of black pepper.

Finish: long and deeply impressive, with power, fruit and black pepper in perfect harmony. A spicy touch and a warm glow spread through the palate. Finally, the mouth remains dry, a drop of water adds a touch of acidity.
