This Single Malt is an elegant version of Royal Lochnagar, slightly hesitant on the nose, but whose strong character is revealed in the mouth. A spirit that can be tasted easily, ideal for an apéritif.
Queen Victoria, when she tasted Lochnagar whisky shortly after its creation in 1848, liked it so much that the distillery took on the "Royal" particle. This distillery, one of the smallest in Scotland, preserves its original method of making sweet and honeyed whiskies.
This Single Malt, golden as the sun, develops fruity aromas of orange and apple; then notes of barley sugar and acid fruits, or even white grapes when water is added, rolls across the palate. The finish is long and warm, like the return of the sun at the end of winter, and reveals aromas of white pepper.
The Special Releases series from Maison Diageo is a set of limited edition bottlings. This highly coveted collection is recognized and appreciated. For its 2021 edition, Diageo has chosen 8 cask-strength Single Malt Scotch whiskies from rare and original casks.

The Royal Lochnagar distillery is located on the banks of the river Dee, not far from Balmoral castle in the Highlands, Scotland. In 1848, Queen Victoria chose Balmoral as the summer house of the Royal family. A while after, John Begg, Lochnagar Master Distiller, invited Prince Albert to visit the distillery, knowing he was into mechanics. The Prince accepts the invitation and comes with his wife, Queen Victoria, and their three kids.
Impressed by the experience, the Queen grants John Begg the “Royal Warrant of Appointment”. Since then, the distillery regularly hosts presitigious visitors, such as British MPs enjoying a moment of relaxation between two meetings with the Balmoral Monarch.
Royal Lochnagar is one of the smallest distilleries of Scotland. Rebuilt three times, it always kept its original appearance and the aspect of a genuine traditional distillery, with its pagoda roofs and its open mashing vat. The visitor’s center is doubled with an area dedicated to the tasting of malt whisky.
