Raasay Gin 70cl 46°

Country : Scotland / Reference: : 25610

Raasay Gin, distilled and bottled on the Scottish Isle of Raasay, is the first legal spirit from an island rooted in centuries of illicit distillation.

This double-distilled artisanal gin is made from ten aromatic plants including juniper picked on site, sweet orange peel and lemon peel.

The case and the bottle, just like the gin it contains, are inspired by the impressive geology of the island: between water sources, shores and volcanic rock.

Isle of Raasay is a young distillery whose project started in 2013. Inspired by ancient Single Malts from the Hebrides archipelago in the United Kingdom, the aromatic profile of its whisky is lightly peaty, balanced with rich aromas of black fruits.

The first legal distillery on the Hebridean Isle of Raasay, Isle of Raasay sits off the west coast of Scotland, separated from the Isle of Skye by a short 25-minute ferry ride.

Co-founders Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day first met in 2013 and formed R&B Distillers with the common goal of building Scotland's first craft distiller.

An island and the heritage of Hebridean whisky

They chose the island of Raasay which ticked all the prerequisites to emphasize local production, provenance, and quality. Relying on the local population and the restoration of a magnificent historic building from the 19th century, the Borodale mansion, the distillery was born and officially launched its activity in 2017 with its first distillation.

Isle of Raasay has drawn inspiration from the whisky history of the Hebrides archipelago to craft an elegant and complex Single Malt, a result of the unique character of the island: remarkable geology, coastal landscape, unique water source and technology peak.

A unique method of ageing

The distillery uses the Na Sia method to produce its Single Malt. To simplify, Na Sia (which means six in Gaelic) is 3 types of barrels: ex-Bordeaux wine, ex-Rye Whiskey and Chinkapin (American oak) combined with two distillates: one peated, the other not. The whiskies are then assembled to produce the Single Malt Isle Of Raasay.

Nose: fresh and aromatic, juniper, sweet orange, candied lemon and hints of rhubarb.

Palate: dry with bursts of juniper, richer notes of rhubarb and citrus before all the flavours come together for a refreshing finish.

Finish: dry and pungent, with a lingering aftertaste that sums up Raasay's style and character.
