Kilchoman Casado 70cl 46°
The Kilchoman Casado is a limited edition that has benefited from a unique ageing process to create an exceptional whisky.
After being aged for 6 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, 38 carefully selected barrels were blended and then aged for a further 2 years in two 6,000 litre Portuguese red wine tanks. These vats brought a remarkable aromatic complexity, highlighting notes of red fruits and spices that blend harmoniously with the peat and maritime smoke characteristic of Kilchoman.
Only ageing in barrels of less than 700 litres is taken into account for the official age of a whisky. The two years spent in the vats of red wine are therefore considered a marriage period, hence the name Casado.
The result is a complex and smooth whisky, offering a subtle balance between salty smoke, red fruits and spices.

First distillery built on Islay, 125 years ago, Kilchoman has been built as a “farm-distillery” and grows its own barley.
About 100 tons are harvested and malted at the distillery, 30% of the distillery’s needs. The rest is supplied by the Port Ellen malt-house. It is also part of the 6 last distilleries operating with traditional malting processes. In 2009, Kilchoman crafted its first recognized Single Malt. Kilchoman is one of the smallest distilleries of Scotland with an annual production of about 100.000 liters.
